Local Sámi management of hunting and fishing

Local Partner: Samiid Riikkasearvi

Sámiid Riikkasearvi are working to establish a sustainable management system for resource use of hunting and fishing resources in the mountain areas within the reindeer herding area in Sweden. In this work we will bring forward, now hidden, traditional knowledge on land management and resource use in order to build a management system based on Sámi ecosystem guardianship.

An important part of this work is to advocate for Sámi involvement on political level to influence for political change. Through this work we will document lessons learned in order to share our experiences internally and externally, also to the Wayfinders network.

Local Partner:

Sámiid Riikkasearvi (RSR) is a NGO/IPO established in 1950 by Sámi in Sweden due to the identified need of an organization by and for Sámi that would work to protect and promote reindeer herding, the Sámi traditional livelihood, and Sámi culture and rights.

RSR are working for the recognition of Sámi rights to culture, land, waters, territories and recourses with a special focus to protect and promote Sámi reindeer herding. All 44 Sámi reindeer herding communities within the Swedish boarders are members of RSR, which gives RSR our mandate.
