The Lahu’s Cultural Network in Thailand

The Project aims to preserve the Lahu indigenous culture by: (i) the making of cooperation from leaders, scholars, and knowledgeable persons from Lahu Yi (red Lahu) and Lahu Na (black Lahu) communities in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces to provide and verify information; (ii) the acquiring of historical data on migration of Lahu from China and Myanmar to Thailand together with their cultural traditions, i.e. Na Mee-Kakewe (Bottle gourd mouth organ playing), Poi Tewe (dancing), Kwa Mue We (traditional songs); and (ii) the making of media and organizing knowledge transferring platform(s) and process(es) in Lahu and Thai language for youths and Lahu people.

By the completion of the Project, it shall bring concrete to the preservation and restoration of indigenous knowledge to last forever.

There is a directory of Lahu people in Thailand; There are four Lahu indigenous knowledge documents used in teaching or dissemination; The network of knowledgeable Lahu people Thailand is formed and strengthened; There are learning materials (books, videos) that can be suitable for modern learning; To make a set of video presentation of the project results; At least 50 people, as new generation and interested Lahu have been trained and learned, of which there are at least 5 people who can pass on the knowledge.
