Katribu National Alliance of Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines (Katribu)
The Philippines Indigenous Peoples (IP) are under attack. The Philippines is once again the deadliest country in Asia for land defenders and has the highest reported cases of enforced disappearances in Southeast Asia. Quick Reaction Teams composed of paralegals, lawyers, human rights defenders, and families of victims are immediately formed and dispatched to provide human rights services such as the search for Desaparecidos, and unlawful arrests. Court Trial and Observation contribute to the expenses of lawyers, paralegals/HRDs, families, and witnesses during the hearings against fabricated charges against IPHRDs, costs of remedial measures like documentary evidence, and filing fees.Direct Actions like protests complementing judicial legal actions and public information to gather political support for the IPHRDs.
Immediate documentation and public information of incidents of violations against IPHRDs that prevents further violations of their rights and gather solidarity support. Avoid unlawful arrests and or prolonged detention of IPHRDs due to the absence of competent legal counsel. Dismissal of fabricated charges, quashed warrants of arrest against IPHRDs, and release from detention of those arrested. Filing of appropriate court petitions or remedies to protect IPHRDs like bail and counter impunity or redress.
