Island Wisdom Traditional Seafaring
This initiative aims to perpetuate the ancient Pacific practice of celestial navigation by training 3 apprentices in the fundamentals of traditional seafaring utilizing the methodology prescribed by the Weriyeng school of navigation and its Master Navigators in Micronesia. Will develop traditional navigation training materials that may be shared with the larger Micronesian community to perpetuate an understanding of the cultural practice.
The initiative will create graphic depictions of the pafuu (naming of the navigational stars) and wofanuu (the star chart centering Guahan) and widely distribute then in various platforms (to include print) to the larger Micronesian community.
