OSEPCCA
This project aimed to provide an innovative way for the Batwa to participate in protecting forest biodiversity and the Batwa way of life in the RUTSIRO district, KIGEYO sector, and BONEZA while improving their food security and income. The Batwa were expelled from their ancestral forest lands, limiting their participation in forest conservation and increasing food insecurity.
68 households trained and cultivated a community potato crop each season. They harvested two seasons since the beginning of the implementation of the project.
52 households were trained and collectively practiced sugar cane cultivation on about one hectare of field. They anticipate their first harvest in April 2024.
