Hauha‘a Tupuna (the Indigenous Rapa Nui Guides Association)
A digital reconnection of Rapa Nui people to important cultural heritage objects produced by their ancestors which now can be viewed only in museum collections in Hawai‘i, North America, and Europe. Using photogrammetry and laser scanning processes, Mana Tupuna creates 3D virtual reality object. The initiative entails close collaboration with Rapa Nui elders, island educators, and community language activists, as well as an interdisciplinary team of researchers.
Initiative ended with the repatriation of the remains of tupuna at the University of Wyoming. Now it is in San Francisco and in December go back to Rapa Nui.
