The course will bring together experienced weavers and students to learn the entire process of spruce root weaving and will create 4 utilitarian baskets. With their new baskets, the students will go out to harvest berries, seafood, and medicines, deepening the connection to this place and observation of climate impacts we’re experiencing in our part of the world. To ensure reciprocity, the learners will commit to harvesting spruce roots annually for Elders who can’t harvest their own, and they will commit to teaching 3 more learners in their lifetime to ensure this knowledge remains alive.
