PP Youth Arctic Council 25th Anniversary Storytelling Initiative

Local Partner: Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples’ Secretariat (IPS)

In 2019, the Arctic youth came together for the first Arctic Youth Leaders’ Summit (AYLS) in Rovaniemi. During this time, they have come together to create a Network, deliver their declaration, and to tell the stories from the Arctic. This online project is designed and implemented to support strengthening the emerged Arctic Indigenous Youth Network during COVID-19 pandemic to continue building relationships across the Arctic borders.

The ultimate project goals are: 1) Strengthen the Arctic Indigenous youth cooperation and continue the work that started at the AYLS; 2) Build the Arctic youth capacity in modern communication and reinforce indigenous storytelling using modern technology.

Arctic youth will learn podcasting and gain skills and knowledge to start their own podcast series promoting their arctic indigenous stories, indigenous ways of knowing and cultural heritage. Through this process, they will highlight important topics such as environmental protection, sustainable development, climate change, biodiversity, etc.
