Empowerment of Indigenous Peoples of Asia and Pan-Pacific through Food 3 Years Project – Year 3: Sharing food wisdoms for the future.

Local Partner: Ainu Women’s Association Menoko Mosmos/Slow Food Community

Background and objective: This project is a continuation of  previous project that focused on researched and indicated food items that are at risk of extinction and registered them on Ark of TasteAinu saw need to further strengthen sharing the traditional recipes of the indigenous foods in the communities and highlighting the main issues that are putting them at risk, uniting the region and communities through food. Through this project Ainu Women will work with indigenous communities from Asia and Pacific to create a book featuring 10 different indigenous traditional recipes, create knowledge transfer opportunities for youths to learn about common

endangered foods in their indigenous communities and connect indigenous communities through food and raise public awareness on endangered foods.

Local partner information: The Ainu Women’s Association Menoko Mosmos was established in April 2017. The mission of the association is to restore the rights of Ainu women and to realize the society where Ainu women are empowered through safeguarding Ainu traditions and convey them to the next generations. In addition, the association sees a silver lining in the power of food which can bring positive discussions.
