Emergency Support re: Covid 19

Regional ethno-environmental community organization, Karakol Valley Council

The initiative aims to acquire and distribute protective items and traditional plants (pine nuts, juniper), and conduct disinfection (bleach, etc.) for indigenous people in remote settlements and farms. Moreover, there is a need to educate indigenous people about getting and using traditional protections from virus-borne illnesses.

We used grant funds to purchase special PPE for hospitals with Covid-19 treatment units. We also provided medical facilities with mercury thermometers to use for identifying sick and infected patients. We also provided hospitals with clear face shields and pulse-oximeters.To prevent viral infection, we purchased antiviral medications for indigenous residents and distributed them widely at no cost. We printed and distributed recommendations for reducing psychological stress for indigenous residents.we also conducted traditional ceremonies and rituals jointly with community leaders and shamans in each community (clan).
