Emergency Support Khomani San

Local Partner: Kgalagadi Youth and women Development Network

Background and  objective: Indigenous peoples in south Africa are amongst the mostly affected by covid  and have little no access to information and support from the government. They are abandoned to themselves and have to survive with the face of the pandemic. Indigenous peop;es have seen their livelihoods shattered and their educational plan halt due to the lockdown and travel band restrictions. Women and young children cannot afford easily basic needs materials for their hygiene. Also, Indigenous peoples don’t have sufficient information on covid19 especially on the prevention measures such as washing of hands and social distancing. The local communities continue to use Indigenous peoples as their labor force without sufficient measures. This further exposes Indigenous peoples who are doing daily works to the profit of the local communities. KWYDN proposes the following main actions will be carried out as follows: purchase and distribution of 3.000 facemasks to 5000 Indigenous peoples  ; support to communities with Covid-19 kits (soap, sanitizers) ; support communities with handwashing buckets of 30 liters in 20 communities  and sensitization of  communities on Covid-19 and its impact mitigation.

3000 Indigenous peoples receive facemasks as measures of protection against Covid-19. Communities are supported with Covid-19 kits (soap, sanitizers). 30 Indigenous people’s communities receive handwashing buckets of 30 liters each. Indigenous people’s communities are sensitized on Covid-19 and its impact mitigatio
