Recuperation of the forests to conserve and enhance biodiversity to support traditional livelihoods and mitigate climate change

Background and  objective: 

The Pala’wan peoples in Ransang intend to recuperate their resource-rice forests within their 73,000- hectare ancestral domain by conserving its biodiversity , including unique species, through the propagation of endemic plant varieties which are sources of supplementary livelihoods, enhances their food security and at the same time strengthen their campaign against the destruction being caused by a plantation that intends to clear 10,000 hectares of their ancestral domain for a massive coconut and agricultural crops plantation. This will contribute to the empowerment of women, rejuvenation of indigenous knowledge system and practices, support intergenerational transfer of knowledge, and mitigates climate change.

Upgraded skills on social enterprise management and the physical structure for a marketing center has been provided. The enterprise has started to benefit cashew producers, having a ready market for their cashew with fair price. Increased understanding on indigenous peoples rights to their rights to land.
