Power-bank of climate resilience: revitalization of yak herding cultures on highlands of Central and Inner Asia

Local Partner: Rural Development Fund (Kyrgyzstan)

International Union of Indigenous Spiritual Practitioners, guided by its Elders Council, considers climate resilience as an important aspect of work. Union’s members contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts on their respective territories. RDF’s proposed project focuses on ancestral practices of sustainable transhumance pastoralism, particularly Yak herding. It involves recovery of high-mountain pastures, revitalization of yak breeds and related traditional food and crafts. The goal is to strengthen climate resilience of Indigenous Peoples of Central and Inner Asia through re-activation of traditional values, knowledge and consolidation of Yak herders to inter-regional Yak Herders’ Association for joint learning and collective leadership in finding climate solutions.
