Strengthening indigenous people’s traditional knowledge and adaptation to climate change

Organization for the Promotion of Kui Culture (OPKC)

The initiative is aim to revive the traditional knowledge of indigenous community to increase their resilience to the impacts of climate change, particularly relating to their food security and sustainable resource management systems. The key activities are: 1.raising awareness on climate change, 2. Establishing a rice-saving granary and seed bank 3. Documentation and exchange on traditional knowledge on food production and preservation, and sustainable resource management practices. The main beneficiaries are 6 communities and 14 more communities will also benefit from the dissemination of the publication on sustainable resource management practices.

In 6 communities, Thmea, Srae Veal, Phneak Rolek, Sleng Tol, Bongkon and Srae village) is being contributed to organization development which OPKC need to improve its capacity. On the other hand, 500 families of six indigenous communities have been increased their food security and enhanced their solidarity and cooperation.

The Organization to Promote Kui Culture (OPKC) is an Indigenous Non-Government Organization resulted from Kui networks in the Northern of Cambodia. OPKC is working with Kui indigenous community who are majority among IPs in Cambodia, in Kompong Thom and Preah Vihear Provinces.

OPKC has been established and registered # 679 Sar Chor Nor on 6th February, 2005 initiated by Kui networks in the Northern with formulation a group of Governance Board.
