Samburu Women Trust

The grant being requested by Samburu Women Trust (SWT) in Laikipia and Samburu counties in northern Kenya will strengthen its work to empower indigenous Samburu women and girls through enhancement of their economic status, social roles, skills development as well as acquisitionof traditional knowledge throughfolkk tales, stories telling and exchange of intergerational interactions, cultural practices and mentoring them to understand and effective contribute to their well being.

SWT is a women driven organization whose key mandate is to raise not only the voice and status of local women, but also spearhead local initiatives aimed at securing rights and safety for local women and the girl child.
SWT was formed to address these challenges with its core mandate of securing livelihoods of the indigenous women as well as facilitate them to advance and protect their human rights and aspirations collectively.

The initiative has changed community perceptions towards women position and created a holistic inter-gender engagement to address issues related to women and girls. · The community/initiative beneficiaries freely gave their views/accepted to be interviewed during the film production, field visit, community dialogue meetings and newsletter documentation.
