Public Organization “Rushnoi”
The primary objective of this initiative is to establish a seed bank to save seeds of local crops and fruits as well as their wild relatives. Rasht district is a mountainous area in Tajikistan, as it relies on horticulture and farming as the primary occupations. In recent years, the region has faced serious climate challenges – extreme drought, leading to diminishing crop yields, scarcity of freshwater resources and the imposed adoption of hybrid crops and imported varieties unsuitable for their climate.
To strengthen the communities in Rasht Valley to adapt to climate change and ensure food security and sovereignty. In addition, they will protect and preserve local varieties of seeds that are more resilient to climate variabilities.
