Ogiek Peoples Development Programme (OPDP)
The project will improve the lighting system of the Nkareta community by installing solar units at the Cultural Centre and 50 households surrounding the center, making it a Renewable Energy Village Model. Setting up a biogas plant at the Centre to serve the Ogiek community and act as a demonstration and learning center for communities.
Biogas utilization: The biogas unit was set up, and the biogas being produced is used as an energy source for cooking at the Cultural Center.
The Cultural Center and the 50 targeted households have transitioned to renewable energy, which has been embraced wholeheartedly, eliminating the need for fallen trees for firewood at the Cultural Centre, which now relies solely on renewable energy sources.
