Strengthening the adaption to climate variability through Food Security for the Indigenous people of Southern Kalahari

Elsie Vaalbooi Development Organization (EVDO)

The initiative aims to establish a community garden that will address the disruption of food availability, reduced access to food, and food quality amplified by climate change. EVDO’s mission revolves around the youth, and therefore, as we implement this project, we will continue to invest in the youth through ongoing legal empowerment workshops, cultural and educational exchange trips to other San groups, and the recording of ancient stories and traditional knowledge.

At the end of 12 months, the community will have a fully functional garden where the produce can be sold reasonably to community members, providing a source of income and an educational platform for youth and children.

To have an engaged youth that can implement and support cultural activities. Create short documentaries to use in training sessions and for educational purposes. Inspire youth with new ideas as they work collectively towards creating better opportunities.
