Advocacy Encouraging the issue of the Melawi Regency Regional Legal Product concerning the Recognition and Protection of Indigenous Peoples and biodiversity in their customary territories.

This project was carried out to return legal access to management of customary territories to indigenous peoples through advocacy to encourage recognition and protection of indigenous peoples in the form of regional legal products for the Melawi Regency, namely the Regent’s Decree regarding the recognition and protection of indigenous peoples in 3 villages, namely Pelaik Keruap, Sungai Labuk, and Upit. The aim of this project is to strengthen the initiatives of indigenous peoples, men and women in protecting and managing their customary territories based on local wisdom which is supported by the policies of the Melawi Regional Government.

Issuance of 3 Regent’s Decrees for the Recognition and protecting of Indigenous peoples in 3 villages that support the the preservation of biodiversity and traditional knowledge in Melawi District. 20 indigenous women who became women champions in their villages who were actively involved in the advocacy process encouraged the recognition of Indigenous peoples and actively monitored their customary territories. There is 3 community-based customary forest management institution and local wisdom. 25 women champions who are actively involved in customary forest management institution (LPHA). Identification of potential for biodiversity to be developed into products with economic value.
