Projet de développement de l’apiculture pour la conservation de la biodiversité, la sécurité alimentaire et la génération de revenus pour le peuple Batwa du district de Rutsiro

OSEPCCA

Bees play a central role for indigenous forest communities such as the Batwa. Harvested honey is used as medicine, food and as a bride price. The Batwa also understand the importance of bees in pollinating different plant species in the forest. However, their eviction from their ancestral forest lands has limited their participation in forest conservation and increased their vulnerability to food insecurity. This initiative aims to provide an innovative way for the Batwa to participate in the protection of forest biodiversity and the Batwa way of life in RUTSIRO District, KIGEYO Sector and BONEZA, while improving their food security and income.
