Udege traditional knowledge and sustainable boreal forest management

Living in two Russian regions [PrimorskyKrai and Khabarovsk Krai] Udege means in native language “Forest People”, so they are complete forest dependent community and they still  keep a huge forests untouched pristine territory which is rich on biodiversity, but under big pressure particular by the timber production, illegal logging, poaching, overfishing and timber industry.  The Udege practice is shamanism. They do believe their nature, forest, trees and sacred sites. Their basic traditional knowledge and cosmovision says, “the forest doesn’t belong to us, we belong to the forest”.  The overall goal of the proposal is to strenthen, document and promote the Traditional Knowledge role for forest sutainable management and ensure knowledge  transfer for the youth generation.
