Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation through Productive Business Development of Indigenous Women Based on Local Wisdom in 6 Villages in the Traditional Territory of West Kalimantan

Background and objective: This project is a follow-up to a previous project that focused on increasing the capacity of indigenous women in managing and utilizing natural resources in customary areas of economic value. Previous project  had a recommendation to continue to provide assistance to indigenous women in managing and utilizing natural resources in customary territories that have economic value. indigenous women play an important role in maintaining and protecting customary territories.

The project intends to strengthen indigenous women in managing customary territories through training and capacity building for the development of productive businesses and exploring the potential for economic value for family income. It will undertake capacity building of indigenous women in developing productive businesses on rice cultivation, fish farming and establishment of the Indigenous Community-Owned Enterprises (BUMMA) organization in 6 villages

Local partner information: AMAN KALBAR (The Indigenous Peoples’ Alliance of West Kalimantan) was founded in 1998 by observers of indigenous peoples’ issues, NGOs, and other Customary Leaders in Pontianak as an independent social organization whose members consist of indigenous communities in West Kalimantan. The main aim is to provide a platform to address various problems faced by Indigenous peoples in West Kalimantan such as human rights violations and customary land grabbing, discriminatory policies etc.
